Options for therapeutic interventions using Traditional Asian medicine include acupuncture, Chinese-style massage, adjunctive modalities, as well as herbal and nutritional consultations.

Options for First Time Appointments

Initial Acupuncture Visit

This is a 80-120 minute visit that includes a review of overall health, discussion of chief complaint(s), an explanation of treatment plan, and actual treatment. We will discuss health history as it pertains to the problem, and recommendations are provided regarding follow up, number of visits, herbal and/or nutritional advice. A full acupuncture treatment along with adjunct modalities such as cupping and massage is also always included without extra fees.

Telehealth, Herbs and Nutrition Using Asian medicine

This is a 45-60 minute appointment vie Teleport to review health history and main problem(s). Lab tests and other reports, if available, are reviewed. Using functional medicine training combined with herbal and nutritional knowledge, a full report is prepared with specific recommendations regarding supplements, herbs, lifestyle and nutritional modifications. I typically include herbal recommendations with any regular treatment; telehealth is appropriate for more complex problems that require a more thorough investigation and analysis.

Cosmetic Acupuncture

This 80-minute session focuses on skin health that may include boosting skin elasticity, and reducing fine lines and sagging, and also dermatitis and acne affecting any portion of the body. May include masking, gua sha, and derma-rolling to promote circulation to the skin. This service is usually booked on a continuous basis, as a series of 5-10 sessions in order to attain lasting results since skin is slower to respond. A recommendation of the number of visits is given after the first visit.

Options for Follow Up Visits

Acu-Massage

The combo of hands-on therapy with needling is not something new. In fact, for centuries massage using pressing, rubbing and gliding strokes along the meridians to affect the flow of energy was an integral part of therapy and was often included with acupuncture treatment. Traditional Chinese massage is not that different from acupressure and Swedish style massage. Tui Na is a massage modality that involves use of the hands in a semi-cupped position to roll over larger muscle groups to release the superficial layer of tissue, or fascia. Pressing and rubbing along these meridians provides deeper pressure to unblock muscle tension. This is one of the most popular services.

Cupping

Cupping is the use of round, smooth glass globes placed over various places on the body using suction. The suction is attained by placing a lit cotton ball inside of the globe to create a vacuum, so that when the cup is placed it pulls and stretches skin. Cupping helps to move more lymph and trigger greater detoxification of tissues. It is used to relax and release tension, ease digestive ailments, and calm the nervous system. Examples are arthritis, rotator cuff syndromes, neck and back tension, knee pain, and constipation.

Auricular (Ear) Reflexology

The ear is a microsystem meaning it is like a hologram of the entire body including brain, joints, tissues and organs. An ear massage stimulates the immune system, improves detoxification pathways, and advances microcirculation to the periphery of the body. After massaging the ear, stimulation of specific points or areas on the ear is provided to accelerate healing of the corresponding region of the body. A great option for insomnia, attention deficit, brain balance, memory and cognition, and chronic digestive disease.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is the use of a heated herbal stick or wand to decongest tissues and promote energy production along a meridian or into a specific acupoint. The traditional warming herb ai ye, mugwort, has innate warming properties. When burned this herb increases the depth of heat carried to the tissues. Moxibustion is wonderful for any pelvic or menstrual problem, whether related to pain or menstrual irregularity. It is also a pick for sluggish energy originating from any chronic problem related to fatigue, numbness, depression, and pain.

Combining Modalities Is Possible Too

It is difficult to really know the benefits of all of the modalities without experiencing them first hand. Usually, I make a recommendation after the initial visit. Often you don’t even have to select as I will administer additional modalities such as cupping or moxibustion, if these match your current symptom. In some cases, I may recommend one modality over another after analysis of your condition, and suggest this for future bookings. For example, a case of neck tension may respond very well to acu-massage for one person with chronic muscle tension, whereas another person may benefit more from cupping combined with acupuncture as this may unlock larger muscle groups.
